Staking claim in the village of Mucientes, Bodegas Sinforiano was founded in 1966 by Sinforiano Vaquero and Daniela Gomez. Now carrying the torch, the families' children have fused the family traditions with new winemaking techniques in their young contemporary cellar (a big change from their once small, underground cellar). They hand-harvest each vineyard of Tinta del País vines ranging from 40 to 120 years old, all of which is farmed with strict sustainable methods. Being that the Cigales DO is becoming more and more known for its longer lived and wonderfully powerful reds, Bodegas Sinforiano is a great example of what can be done in this lesser-known region.
sinforiano 'sinfo' rosado
70% tempranillo, 20% verdejo, 10% albillo Sinfo Rosado is sourced from different limestone, chalk, and gravel plots throughout the Mucientes area of Cigales. It is composed of grapes from the estate’s youngest Tempranillo vineyards, which are planted side by side with a few indigenous white varietals (Verdejo & Albillo) interspersed throughout the fields. Having been picked, crushed, and vinified all together and according to traditional rosé methods, this exquisite pink wine provides freshness as well as volume on the palate for an easy-drinking style. Packed with minerality and fresh fruits, this is a beautiful, un-oaked, dry Rosado for any wine drinker. |
sinforiano 'sinfo' tinto roble
100% tempranillo The Sinfo Tinto Roble is made using only Tempranillo from beautifully mature vineyards. It is aged for roughly 6 months in American and French oak, after it was naturally fermented in stainless steel, and bottled unfiltered and rests for at least 12 months before going to the market. On the nose, it shows red and black berry fruit with some exciting floral and perfumed notes. In the mouth, it is powerful with strong tannins but it softens nicely and finishes smooth and pleasant with lingering cherry and spice notes. The minerality and Spanish flare in this wines is distinct and fantastic. |
sinforiano '50 vendimias' 100% tempranillo The 2009 Sinforiano ’50 Vendimias’ is an extremely small, quality production wine made of Tempranillo from a 105-year-old vineyard in the Mucientes area of Cigales. 1361 bottles were made, and it was made in honor of ‘Papa Sinfo’ himself for his 50th harvest in the vineyards for the 2009 vintage. He passed away in the summer of 2015, and this bottle will be as long-lived as he was. The oldest of the estate fruit was hand-harvest and even hand-de-stemmed to ensure only the most perfect grapes were used for these special barrels. Perfectly fitting for Sinfo’s 50th harvest, as 2009 was one of the greatest vintages in this area of Spain ever. Structure, class, depth, finesse, and brilliance all shoot forth from this bottle when opened; but there is no doubt that opening this wine now is not doing great service to a wine that can age for the decades to come. |
