Asenjo & Manso was founded in 2004 in the village of La Horra of Ribera del Duero. Although the bodega is young, the wines are amazingly deep and complex due to the 50-100 year old family vineyards. A & M follows completely organic production, with certification in some of their vineyards already. Jésus Asenjo (the grandson of Tiofilo Asenjo, who first planted the estate's vines) has been in the fields his entire life and tends to the vines himself year-round, and even his elderly father still walks the fields that Tiofilo once planted each day. Precise and careful practices are carried out in their pristine facility by Natalia Calleja, where she believes in only stainless steel fermentations before oak aging, a light hand during the maturation, and creating wines that show the loving effort of the family estate.
asenjo & manso 'am3'
100% tempranillo The Asenjo & Manso AM3 is a beautiful Ribera del Duero that comes from the estate’s youngest vineyard fruit, and is turned into the freshest style red that they produce. After a hand harvest of their organic vines, these grapes went through a natural fermentation in stainless steel, and were placed into used French barrique for 3 months (thus the name AM3), making for a true ‘Roble’ style Spanish red. With only a tiny addition of sulfites, the wine was bottled and released to the market as a clean and bright style wine for enjoying while young or aging for a year or two. The result is bright with fresh acidity, yet has a lot of deep dark fruit and wood tones to keep a balance and to live up to the region’s reputation. The tannins are soft and well integrated, and lead to a nice finish that invites the next sip. asenjo & manso 'silvanus edición limitada' 100% tempranillo
The Silvanus Edicion Limitada is a special bottling of A&M’s flagship wine made with fruit from an 80-year-old vineyard. Named after the god of nature for his ability to maintain balance between the natural and the civilized worlds, the Silvanus is an exceptional wine that brings together the tradition of Ribera del Duero winemaking and the most naturally treated vineyards from which it is created. The Edicion Limitada is selected from the best plots of vines in the very best years, and also selected from the best barrels during aging. Rustic and gripping while being gorgeously elegant and long on the palate, with integrated and delicious tannins that are woven around dark fruits, leather, spice, and tobacco. |
asenjo & manso 'ceres'
100% tempranillo Asenjo & Manso ‘Ceres’ is a small production wine made from 50 year old Tinta del Pais vines, named after the Greek God of the harvest and the land. A delicious style of Ribera del Duero that offers dense fruit and supple oak content, but also integrates the classic markers of the region. After both fermentations are complete in only stainless steel, the wine is moved into new and used French and American oak barrels for a full year. The resulting wine is full of rich leather and tobacco notes, while showing spiciness and dark fruits, as well as hints of eucalyptus and pepper. Clean oak tones lead to a satisfying finish of red and black fruits, and all of which is accompanied by ample acidity and gripping tannings. The Ceres is a confident and very well-balanced red that will grace any table of meat. asenjo & manso 'a&m'
100% tempranillo The A&M is the top wine of this small estate, coming from vines that have been in the family for 100 years. Only 3,500 bottles are produced, and only in exceptional years when the estate’s oldest vines yield perfect berries. All vineyards are organically farmed, and the attention to detail at the bodega is exceptional. This wine is brooding with rich and dark fruits, strapped with earthy tobacco, leather, cedar, and balanced with lifted acidity, which adds to the shear class and elegance of this impeccable wine. This Tinta del Pais is an extremely limited production, and is truly a gem in the Ribera del Duero D.O. |
asenjo & manso 'silvanus'
100% tempranillo The Silvanus is A&M’s flagship wine made with fruit from an 80-year-old vineyard. Named after the god of nature for his ability to maintain balance between the natural and the civilized worlds, the Silvanus is an exceptional wine that brings together the tradition of Ribera del Duero winemaking and the most naturally treated vineyards from which it is created. After stainless steel fermentations, the wine was aged one year in new oak barrels to give depth of flavor and structure in the final bottle that spends years resting before release. Elegant yet intense on the palate, the wine combines chocolate and cherry with classic notes of leather, tobacco, and spice. Clean, refined tannins lead to a lovely lingering finish of caramel, vanilla, and black cherry. |
