Bodegas Puiggros only took their wines to market in 2008 but they still have a romantic winemaking history. Since 1843, the Puiggros family has been producing wines from their own vines in the Odena region of Catalunya for the family and close friends. Over generations they had come to realize that their vineyards and techniques were something worth sharing with the world. A sincere dedication to the terroir in their zone and the indigenous varieties that grow there, allows them to constantly discover ways to unlock all of the magic that lies within their land. Starting with conscious and clean farming in the vineyard, they hand-harvest only the best fruit for their production, and ferment each vineyard separately in varying vessels to accentuate what the vines have to show; some in stainless steel, and many in clay amphora of differing sizes. Depending on the batch, the wine goes into top quality oak for extra aging, all the while seeing very little sulfur use (if any) until bottling. Puiggros is pushing the quality of northeastern Spain's wines forward, and doing so in a clean and unique way.

puiggros 'exedra' blanc
100% garnatxa blanca The Exedra Blanc comes from a gorgeous vineyard full of limestone and clay, at 500 meters above sea level. After a hand-harvest, the grapes were fermented naturally in 800-liter clay amphora for about four months until the finished wine rested in both the amphora and cement tanks on the lees for another few months. With minimal sulfur used before bottling, the aromatics jump out of the glass with fleshy fruits like peach and pineapple, sweet flowers of jasmine and lemon, and loads of aromatic Mediterranean herbs and beeswax. The palate is persistent with ample freshness backed by sweet and fresh fruit character, a nice mouth feel, and a soft enjoyable finish. Perfect for all kinds of fish and crustaceans, this wine also is ideal to sip on and just enjoy. |
puiggros 'exedra' negre
100% garnatxa The Exedra is a fresh and delightful wine made from entirely Garnatxa, with a hand harvest of the grapes to the cellar starts with natural fermentation in both clay amphora and cement. Malolactic conversion then takes place after all of the wine is moved to 800 liter Amphora for a 9-month rest before bottling. The result has an intensity of bright red fruits, spices, and toffee, showcasing a dynamic aroma that brings a combination of funky earth and fruit before a very expressive flavor on the palate. It is very balanced and with packed full of great acidity, gritty tannins, and a lovely fresh finish. |
puiggros 'imprevisible'
100% garnatxa blanca The Impressionant is a small production skin-fermented Garnatxa Blanca from a gorgeous vineyard full of limestone and clay, at 500 meters above sea level. After a hand-harvest, the grapes were fermented naturally with skins in 800-liter clay amphora for about five and a half months before a very light pressing and no filtration or fining before bottling. No sulfites were used during the whole process, and results in a rustic orange wine that is a pure expression of the incredible local white Garnacha. Aromatic and raw in the glass, this wine comes in full of texture in the nose all the way to the long lasting finish. Dried apricots, peaches, white flowers, orange zest, and a chalky grip, the Impressionant is long and pleasurable, and absolutely stunning with a plethora of cuisine. |
puiggros 'mestre vilavell'
100% sumoll The Mestre Vilavell is an intense and beautiful wine made entirely from the local Sumoll variety, coming from the hills surrounding Barcelona. Natural fermentation is carried out in oak barrels and stainless steel, then moved to lightly toasted, used 300L French Allier oak for malolactic fermentation and a 12 month rest for complexity and nuance. The finished wine is very expressive on the nose, with vivid notes of blueberries, spices, and coffee, and while the palate does echo these bright characteristics, the acidity and integrated tannins are what really bring the balance and excitement to this bottle of wine. |
puiggros 'signes del priorat'
100% cariyena The Signes del Priorat comes from a small block of 45-year-old Cariyena vines in the Porrera zone of Priorat, where the steep slopes are packed with the famous Licorella slate soils that are so distinct for this mineral-driven red. A hand-harvest is mandatory from these vines, and once the fruit was brought to the cellar, the grapes were de-stemmed and began natural fermentation in stainless-steel tank. Once complete and the grapes were gently pressed, then the wine was moved into both 800-liter amphora and used 500-liter French oak for a full year before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. After another two years of aging in the bottle, the wine was released to market giving wildly aromatic characteristics off the nose, full of brambly dark fruits, lavender, rosemary, and black licorice. In the mouth, the texture is lifted with acidity, but the bold tannins are full of chewy fruit, strong mineral tones, and a long finish that begs for grilled meats. |
