Located in Le Pallet, in the heart of Muscadet, Domaine les Quatre Journaux farms 20 hectares of vineyards surrounding the cellar, with nearly all of the estate planted on rare gabbro soils, alongside a small portion on gneiss. Rich in iron and mineral content, these soils give the wines a distinctive tension, salinity, and mineral depth that define the identity of the domaine. The estate was purchased by Matthieu Bodin in 2023 from the Bosseau family, who had farmed the property for five generations. Jean Bosseau, who still lives in the house beside the cellar, remains an integral part of the domaine and Matthieu's transition into its stewardship, sharing both knowledge and history. Jean also played an important role in preserving Berligou, a nearly extinct historic grape once believed to have arrived from Burgundy to Brittany in the late 15th century. Today, only a few hectares remain planted, including a small parcel farmed by Matthieu himself. In both the vineyard and cellar, the philosophy is rooted in transparency and respect for the environment. Cover crops, preserved hedgerows, and minimal tractor use encourage biodiversity and soil health, while the wines ferment naturally with little intervention, minimal sulfur, natural clarification through winter, and only light filtration before bottling when needed. The result is a collection of vibrant, honest wines that clearly reflect the singular terroir of Le Pallet.

domaine les quatre journaux folle blanche
100% folle blanche 'b' The Domaine les Quatre Journaux Folle Blanche is sourced entirely from old massal selection Folle Blanche vines preserved by the Bosseau family, offering a vibrant and saline expression of this historic Atlantic variety. The grapes are destemmed, gently pressed, and fermented naturally in underground sandstone-lined tanks without temperature control, allowing for a steady native fermentation followed by partial natural malolactic conversion through the fall. Matthieu prioritizes freshness and vineyard health above ripeness, harvesting early to preserve the grape’s natural energy and avoid rot pressure. After élevage in stainless steel for nearly ten months without bâtonnage, the wine is bottled with only minimal sulfur additions late in aging and before bottling. The result is a bright, mineral-driven white with crisp acidity, coastal salinity, and a distinctly textural, living character. |

domaine les quatre journaux muscadet
100% melon de bourgogne The Domaine les Quatre Journaux Muscadet is sourced exclusively from the small portion of the estate planted on ancient Armorican Massif gneiss soils, offering a more lifted and linear expression alongside the domaine’s volcanic gabbro wines. The vines are massal selection Melon de Bourgogne, fermented naturally in the estate’s underground sandstone-lined tanks with native yeasts and no temperature control. After fermentation, the wine rests for six months in fiberglass tanks to build texture and depth with the lees, however, with no batonnage in order to preserve freshness and precision. The result is a bright, energetic Muscadet with citrus peel, green orchard fruit, and sea spray salinity, carried by a crystalline mineral tension that reflects both the Atlantic climate and the ancient gneiss terroir beneath the vines. |
domaine les quatre journaux muscadet sevre-et-maine
100% melon de bougogne The Domaine les Quatre Journaux Muscadet Sèvre-et-Maine is produced entirely from old massal selection Melon de Bourgogne planted on the domaine’s volcanic gabbro soils. Fermentation occurs naturally in the estate’s underground sandstone-lined tanks, followed by eight months of aging on the lees in the same subterranean environment, where naturally stable temperatures allow for a slow and gentle interaction between the wine and lees without manipulation. Matthieu harvests this cuvée at the point just before malic acid begins to fall, aiming to preserve freshness and energy while achieving full flavor development and balance in the fruit. The resulting wine combines bright citrus and saline tension with a deeper mineral texture shaped by the iron and magnesium-rich gabbro soils beneath the vines. |

domaine les quatre journaux muscadet sevre-et-maine grand reserve
100% melon de bourgogne The Domaine les Quatre Journaux Grande Réserve Muscadet Sevre-et-Maine is sourced exclusively from Les Chausselières, considered one of the domaine’s finest gabbro terroirs, and represents a deeply traditional expression of long-aged Muscadet sur lie. Fermented naturally in the underground sandstone-lined tanks, the wine remained aging on its lees underground for an extraordinary 73 months, slowly evolving in the naturally cool and stable cellar environment. This cuvée was originally started by Jean Bosseau before the sale of the estate, with Matthieu Bodin taking over stewardship of the wine and guiding it through the final years of élevage before bottling in October 2024. The result is a remarkably layered and textural Muscadet, combining deep mineral character, savory complexity, and saline tension with the freshness that defines great wines from Le Pallet. |
domaine les quatre journaux berligou
100% berligou The Domaine les Quatre Journaux Berligou is produced from one of the Loire Valley’s rarest historic varieties, planted on the domaine’s volcanic gabbro soils and farmed with a strong focus on vineyard health and biodiversity. Wider vine spacing and permanent cover crops improve airflow, reduce disease pressure, and encourage natural soil vitality, while multiple passes of shoot thinning and green harvesting help control the naturally vigorous nature of Berligou. Fermentation takes place with 50% whole clusters and native yeasts in stainless steel tanks designed for gentle oxygen exchange and slow extraction. The wine then undergoes élevage in old barrels for 10 months with no racking and minimal intervention throughout the process. The result is a remarkably distinctive red with crunchy dark fruit, wild herbs, floral spice, earthy minerality, and a bright, energetic structure that feels both ancient and completely singular. |
